George Petty was born George Brown Petty IV on April 27, 1894 in Abbeville, LA.

He passed away on July 21, 1975 (age 81 years) in San Pedro, Los Angeles, CA.

Petty’s pin-up art appeared primarily in Esquire, a men’s magazine, which published their first edition in October of 1933.

Additionally, Petty’s art was featured regularly in Fawcett Publications' of True.

True, was another men’s magazine, published by Fawcett from 1937 to 1974.

True, became the #1 Man's Magazine in the 1960s.

The Petty Girl was a coquettish, idealized woman whose legs were unnaturally long. She was featured on magazine centerfolds, billboards, and calendars for companies such as Ridgid Tools.

It was Petty's Esquire gatefolds* which help to popularize the centerfold spreads.

*A gatefold is an oversized page in a book folded to the same size as the other pages, but intended to be opened out for reading or viewing.

George Petty’s art is below. Download and use for personal or commercial use.
